“It’s never a bad time to remind yourself: Don’t be an asshat.” –Shaunacy Ferro
“Well-read people are less likely to be evil.” –Lemony Snicket
“(Interview to be a hot dog vendor at a baseball park.) Interviewer: How loud can you yell ‘hot dogs’? Me: (eyes go completely black) HOT DOGS.” –Michael Raphone, Sr
A good, fairly representative show. A little long, because at the end I took about two hours to read the comfortably eerie Brad Watson masterwork /Aliens In The Prime Of Their Lives/, and then played Negativland’s self-titled 1980 first record album, because of the recent death of collage artist (in all the media, sight and sound) Don Joyce of both Negativland and KPFA. In the future, when they say there were giants in those days, well, Don Joyce.
Download it and skip around in it. Find something you like and learn something and enjoy yourself. And write; I’m happy to read on the air everything you have to say, swears and all.
And here are links to plenty more not necessarily radio-useful but interesting items that I happened upon while putting the latest show together, that I found mostly thanks to the fine websites listed to your right.
What are /you/ lookin’ at? Huh? Huh?
Spacesuits down through the ages.
Singing in different sonic spaces.
Davy Jones’ aerodrome. Hydrodrome.
Wondering why, if the rainbow is all the colors, there’s no magenta there? It’s because magenta is not in the world nor even in your eye; it’s in your brain.
Water use. Raising cattle uses half the water in California. To make up for eating a single hamburger you’d have to go without 55 showers.
“Royal Dutch Shell (aka the Keystone Kops of the oil industry) just crashed /another/ one of their Arctic drilling vessels, and they /still/ want to go ahead with drilling. Tell the Secretary of the Interior to say no.”
William Shatner, Common People.
A concert featuring xylophones and horns and other instruments made of ice. 16 minutes.
A daring rescue.
Nice threads, tattooed soldering girl who gets no credit for this amazing project while the guys talk and talk.
A war game demo. POV: child.
Bring out yer dead. (BONG.) Bring out yer dead. (BONG.)
Mitch Clogg sent me this link. Properly colorized historical photos.
A movie scream compilation. Heltering. Except, I got /heltering/ from a late-1950s Walt Kelly /Pogo/ comic strip. “Here is the scream, full and round, hearty and high, a heltering sound.” And I just looked it up and there is no such word. There really should be.
So– Wilma, but, what, no Betty?
Here’s role model Bill Cosby with a fun lesson!
And it’s been so nice talking to you!
